Trees

What kinds of trees are there?

Trees can be grouped into various categories that offer different aspects depending on what you are looking to add to your garden or yard. Looking for shade, fall foliage, flowers, or fruit? We have many options at The Flower Garden and are happy to help you find just the right one to suit your needs.

Deciduous

Deciduous trees lose their leaves in the fall and regrow them again in the spring. They are often grown for foliage, flowers, or shade.

Deciduous trees are beloved for their fall colors, which add beauty to any landscape. You may choose a tree like our quick growing maples for the shade that they provide. Or maybe a tree like the flowering cleveland pear is for you, with all of the beauty of springtime blossoms without large, messy fruit to care for. You could even try out the maroon, heart shaped foliage of our redbud trees for your yard.

Evergreen

Evergreen trees keep their foliage year round and provide color for your garden even during the dark  months of winter.

Looking for a popular evergreen like the colorado blue spruce? Or maybe something more classic like an emerald giant arborvitae. Either way you can find it here with our selection of more than thirty varieties of pine, spruce, and arborvitae.

Fruiting

Expand your garden with the installment of a fruit bearing tree, the perfect companion for an avid canner.

There are endless possibilities for desserts when you have your own fruit tree. Make your own cobbler with fresh, backyard peaches, or surprise friends with a hot cherry pie. Make candy apples in the fall with your harvest. Or perhaps simply grab a fresh plum, crabapple or pear on your way through your garden.

Statement

A statement tree is the perfect option to create a flashy focal point to your landscaping and wow your guests.

Find a statement tree that is perfect to tie together your landscaping. At the flower garden we have a number of options, such as a regal lavender twist weeping redbud. Or the time tested japanese maple with it's delicate, lacy form. Even more unique options like the ethereal form of the weeping alaskan blue cedar.

Shrubs

What kinds of shrubs are there?

At The Flower Garden we have a shrub for every occasion, and lots of landscaping experts to help you pick out the perfect one. Shrubs can be used as borders, center pieces, and for food production. There are many unique varieties that provide interest points for your garden as well.

Foliage/Floral Interest

Shrubs grown for foliage often have interesting leaf shapes or colors that add to your garden. Shrubs grown for flowers provide seasonal pops of color.

If you are looking for a flowering shrub or one with interesting foliage, the possibilities are endless. You could try the colorful leaves of barberry, weigela, and elderberry. Or the showy flowers of potentilla, butterfly bush, hydrangea, and viburnum.

Evergreen

Evergreen shrubs give year long life to your garden and are often used for borders and hedges.

Choose an evergreen shrub if you want a reliably verdant fixture in your garden. Arborvitae and boxwoods are perfect for shaped hedges that give a well manicured and regal look to walkways and landscaping. Holly bushes provide picturesque red berries in the fall, perfect for winter decorating and a favorite of birds as a winter food supply. Juniper works well as an evergreen groundcover for difficult to maintain areas.

Fruiting

Fruiting shrubs  are great additions to any garden and provide lots of delicious fruits year after year.

Fruiting shrubs are popular in gardens, and unlike annual crops, don't need to be purchased and planted year after year. Here at The Flower Garden we have a selection of hardy varieties of blueberry, raspberry, and grape that are sure to provide ample supplies of fruit for jams, desserts, juice, and fresh snacks.

Statement

These stand out shrubs are unique enough to warrant their placement as centerpieces in a landscape.

Plenty of our shrubs deserve a position at the center of a garden, but some draw more attention than others. Beloved favorites like hydrangeas are available on standard, grafted on a taller trunk so that they are more visible, looking like small trees. Evergreen shrubs on standard are often pruned into artful shapes and are the perfect addition for a meticulous and classy landscape.
